About The Clinic

The Clinic at SaintA provides individual, family and group outpatient mental health services, including talk and occupational therapy, Theraplay®, Art Therapy, and a range of other interventions.

It all begins with clinical consultations and assessments using the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT). SaintA’s clinical team have completed or are completing NM certification through the Neurosequential Network (formerly, the ChildTrauma Academy.)

Therapeutic Services Provided For:

  • Mood, Anxiety and Identity Disorders
  • Disorders of childhood and adolescence
  • Physical/sexual/emotional abuse
  • Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Familial/peer relationships issues
  • Needs/challenges within the school setting
  • Self-esteem/self-harm issues
  • Infant/early childhood needs
  • Occupational evaluation and treatment
Client focus includes infants, early childhood, youth, adolescents, teens, adults and families

Clinical Consultations

SaintA provides menu-based clinical consultation services that can be individualized to meet the needs of a child or adolescent, a family, school or county. Services can include:

  • Trauma assessment and recommendations using the neurosequential model of therapeutics (NMT™) framework
  • Family interviews
  • Child/adolescent interviews
  • School classroom observation
  • School staff interviews
  • Support in conducting functional behavioral assessment (FBA), developing behavior intervention plan (BIP), and enhancing the individualized education plan (IEP) within the school setting
  • Work in collaboration with outpatient providers, i.e. psychologist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, outpatient therapist
  • Completion of supporting assessment tools with youth, family and/or school staff, as identified per the needs of the child/adolescent
  • Written report that includes clinical/behavioral assessment, therapeutic recommendations and assistance with creating trauma informed treatment recommendations in collaboration with outpatient provider
  • Step-down model of implementation, including modeling and coaching parent(s) in the home setting and school staff in the classroom, to demonstrate interventions and problem-solve in real-time settings

Funding for clinical consultation services may be provided through county resources, school districts or private pay.

Meet Our Therapists

Betsy Cocos, MSW, LMFT, has 25+ years of experience in the field. Betsy’s area of expertise includes working with victims of sexual abuse. She specializes in working with teens and adults and incorporates family work into the therapeutic process. Betsy’s philosophy is to support the whole family unit in improving mental health and well-being.

Artie Turner, MS, LPC-IT, specializes in acute depression, mood disorders and anxiety. His clinical work includes experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Artie enjoys working with adolescents, teens, adults and families in supporting their mental well-being through creative therapeutic approaches.

Nils Johnansen, MSW, APSW, has been a practicing social worker in Milwaukee for nearly 15 years and specializes in serving at-risk youth and families within the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. He has an interest in providing services to teens and working in family dynamics. Nils enjoys incorporating drumming and music into his client work to help promote stress coping and self-regulation skills.

Brian Myers, MS, ATRL-BC, LPC, ATCS, is an Infant Mental Health Specialist and has 20+ years of experience in infant, early childhood and family work. Brian is also an Art Therapist and trained in EMDR. He enjoys fostering relational connections between parents and their infants or young children, and providing various treatment modalities for the youth, teens and adults he serves.

Jacob Kulas, LPC, has received Level One training in Theraplay® and the Marschak Interaction Method (MIM), which incorporates play and attachment work into parent-child interactions both in and out of the therapeutic setting. His play therapy expertise combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems work gives Jacob a variety of therapeutic approaches to consider for youth of all ages.

Laprece Armour has a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor In Training. She has experience in private practice providing therapy services to adults, adolescents, children, and families, as well as experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, ADHD, anger management, grief, and relationship challenges.

Michael Joranger, LCSW, is a Licensed Mental Health Professional for the Clinic at SaintA. He has over 34 years of child welfare and psychotherapy experience in a variety of settings, including schools, residential and hospital inpatient care, foster care case management, foster care licensing and placement, foster care parent education, as well as agency-wide staff development. Areas of specialty include bringing the SaintA Trauma Informed Care philosophy to a wider audience and crisis management training for agency staff and foster parents. Attendees at Mike’s classes include Department of Human Service and Child Protection workers, law enforcement, corrections, and psychiatric nurses, educators and social workers. He is also a Master Trainer for the ACE Interface Project and a Mandt system trainer. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s University, did graduate work at the University of Minnesota, and earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Immanuel Rich, MS, LPC-IT, SAC-IT, specializes in working with child, adolescents and families. Areas of expertise are trauma and addiction. Experienced in Multidimensional Family Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Immanuel believes that change and healing takes place in the context of good healthy relationships. Children and adolescents can see positive change when that healing takes place within the family unit. Immanuel is passionate about coming along side of the families, guiding and facilitating them, helping them to become more aware of untapped potential. Immanuel believes that with the right tools, skills and awareness activated, families, children and individuals can learn to live more fulfilling lives.
