This training is an introduction to the model of trauma informed care that SaintA has developed over the past seven years and has implemented across all of its programs. Participants who attend this training will be able to:
- Describe the prevalence of adverse experiences and the scope of their impact.
- Define and respond to behavior from a trauma informed perspective.
- Describe how trauma affects the brain and influences development, learning and behavior.
- Identify factors that enhance the capacity for positive relationships for children who have adverse experiences.
- Describe how purpose, belonging and safety enhance children’s well-being.
- Identify techniques that enhance caregiver capacity and connect them to outcomes.
- Identify action steps to enhance trauma informed services.

Completion of the Introduction to the Seven Essential Ingredients course is strongly encouraged before attending this course. In this training we will take a deeper dive into the 7th essential ingredient, Caregiver Capacity. Strategies to identify the impact of secondary traumatic stress, personal trauma history, primary and ongoing trauma and systemic stress will be shared. Whether you are an educator, therapist or other helping professional, trauma sensitive practice requires authentic empathy and compassion. In partnership with The Mandt System® and FEI, SaintA brings you a flexible Workplace Violence Prevention program that is relationship-based and person-centric, treating all individuals with dignity and respect. The Mandt System is a comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, de-escalating, and intervening with challenging behavior (this course does not teach technical skills or physcial restraints). The training is paired with a wide range of tools for managing disruptive behavior before, during and after the incident. The training program focuses on early warning signs, integrating gradual alternatives for supporting and de-escalating people. Learning Objectives:
- Building Healthy Relationships: Understanding foundational beliefs, working as a team, dealing with emotions, causes of stress and identifying the crisis cycle. Learn to build healthy workplace relationships that focus on dignity and respect to enhance outcomes and prevent crisis.
- Building Healthy Communication: Nonverbal, vocal and verbal elements in communication and strategies for de-escalation will be covered. Learn effective management of potential crisis through personal regulation and behavior management in order to positively interact with others.
- Building Healthy Conflict Resolution: Improve communication through problem solving and problem solving techniques. Develop proactive intervention skills with a focus on prevention.

Participants will attend a four day workshop in which they will be trained by a SaintA training staff on SaintA’s 7ei module of trauma informed care. Participants will enhance their knowledge about the underlying research and resources that support 7ei. Participants will be equipped with tools and resources to create awareness and inspire a trauma informed perspective in their agency or organization. Participants will receive opportunities for coaching to deliver the content effectively. * Trainers will be certified to train the 7ei model at their named entity (facility, agency, school district or consortium) and are only authorized to train individuals employed by this entity. Under no circumstances is the trainee certified to authorize others to train using the 7ei curriculum. Certification will expire two years after training is completed at which time the person must discontinue teaching 7ei until recertified. Participants will receive opportunities for coaching to deliver the content effectively. NOTE: Participants may attend the day long Introduction to the 7ei of Trauma Informed Care presentation by a SaintA the day BEFORE re-certification, but it is not required. This can be helpful for review as well as exposure to any content updates. There is no additional fee to attend the 7ei Introduction presentation. * Trainers will be re-certified to train the 7ei model at their designated entity (facility, agency, school district or consortium) and are only authorized to train individuals employed by this entity. Completion of the Introduction to the Seven Essential Ingredients course is strongly encouraged before attending this course. In this training, participants will learn specific tools to identify traumatic response in children and increase awareness of key physiological, developmental, behavioral and academic indicators of traumatic stress. Participants will be given strategies to help facilitate perspective shift in the families, schools and communities with which they work to create a more trauma-informed view. Specific strategies for intervention that increase regulation in children will be shared, along with ideas about how to create nurturing relationships for healing. These strategies will target improved behavior, increased academic success and enhanced healing and resilience. Further exploration of how to help students create a “reason to be” will be addressed through tools that help achieve a sense purpose and hope. Finally, the need for a focus on the caregiver capacity of school staff will be emphasized as essential in creating a trauma-sensitive school. This presentation will be interactive and include hands-on activities and discussion. Many resources will be shared, and the expertise of the room will be drawn upon to encourage collaboration and a wider community of knowledge. Lunch is provided. Hotel accommodations near SaintA.
