Chippewa Falls Foster Parents Win Governor’s Outstanding Adoptive Parent Award
On Wednesday Nov 20, Chris and Wendy Attoe will receive the 2019 Governor’s Outstanding Adoptive Parent Award. Join us in Madison to watch these dedicated foster parents be presented with this exciting award.
The ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Assembly Chamber at the state capitol.
November is Adoption Awareness Month. Chris and Wendy adopted their first sibling group of two in 2016. Three years later, they adopted four more children out of foster care – this time, a sibling group of three and an individual child.
As treatment foster care parents, all of their children have extensive special needs. They also have a biological son, who was once an only child and is now the second oldest of seven!
Though their household is currently full, Chris and Wendy are committed to keeping their license active, so they are ready to take placement of more children when their older children become adults.
Leaders in the Community
As the first SaintA TFC home outside the greater Milwaukee area to adopt through foster care, the Attoes are leaders in the foster care community. They advocate for keeping siblings together, maintaining contact with families after reunification and shared parenting.
“Chris and Wendy are an inspiration to their friends and neighbors, having encouraged four families to become licensed TFC providers,” says Becky Connell, SaintA Statewide Director of Treatment Foster Care. “These referrals have helped tremendously in keeping foster kids from the Chippewa Falls area placed in or around their own community.”
